How to make it

Point a 'V' hand at your other flat palm and sweep it down the palm, like eyes scanning a page.

Where the sign comes from

Iconic

The sign visibly depicts its meaning — a present-day resemblance, not a historical claim.

The V is a pair of eyes (as in LOOK); the flat palm is the page. The eyes move down the page.
